How to Play Smash Screen

Smash Screen is a free online desktop destruction game. Play directly in your browser, break icons and windows, experiment with elemental reactions, and explore a living bug ecosystem. No account or installation is required.
How to play
- Click Play to start with the machine gun on the classic Windows-inspired desktop.
- Hold anywhere on the desktop to fire. Open Tools to browse weapons or use the quick buttons for the hammer, flamethrower, and freeze ray.
- Press Escape to pause. Use Repair to restore the sandbox and try another combination.
Choose your kind of destruction
Sandbox has no timer. Time attack gives you 60 active seconds to earn a high score. Five challenges test limited hammer swings, frozen shatters, protecting ladybugs, precise pest control, and grenade chain reactions.
Discover combinations
Enable breakable windows and objects under Options → Controls & settings, then start a new round. Freeze a window and hit it with the hammer for a brittle shatter. Ignite painted objects, chain lightning across wet materials, or move canisters together with the Hand before triggering an explosion.
Keyboard and touch controls
Click, hold, or drag to use a tool. On touch screens, press and drag across the desktop. With the playground focused, arrow keys aim and Space fires. Z selects the Hand, X selects Water, T selects Freeze Ray, and 9 selects Hammer. Escape pauses, M toggles sound, H opens help, and C repairs the sandbox.
Save your best moments
Export a screenshot or a short replay as a video or GIF when supported by your browser. Replays are created locally. Your records, discoveries, and settings are remembered in the same browser.

Is Smash Screen free?
Yes. All game modes are free to play, with no account or payment required.
Does it damage my real computer or files?
No. Destruction happens inside the game’s canvas. It does not modify your desktop or files.
Can I play on a phone?
Yes. The interface supports touch controls and responsive layouts. Performance and replay export support depend on your browser and device.
Can I use my own picture?
Yes. Select an image in settings to use as a local wallpaper. The game does not upload it. See our privacy policy for storage and replay details.
How do I unlock more desktops?
Discover reactions and earn challenge medals to unlock Orbital Station and The Night Shift. Progress saves automatically when browser storage is available.
